Legal Officer Property Development and Management

The position

The Legal Officer is responsible for the efficient administration of the company, particularly regarding compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements. The incumbent will have close working association with external lawyers and auctioneers.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Preparation of tenants’ letters of offer and licenses.
  • Review third party agreements to protect the group’s interests.
  • Oversee the lease registration process to ensure legal compliance.
  • Liaise with the company’s external advocates and auctioneers.
  • Ensure that the company’s licenses and other statutory requirements are in place for compliance.
  • Undertake communication of a legal nature with the company’s tenants and suppliers.
  • Manage the insurance portfolio.

The requirements

Qualifications/Personal Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from a recognized university, minimum 3 years post admission as Advocate of High Court of Kenya with valid practicing certificate.
  • Possession of Certified Public Secretary (CPS-K) qualification will be an added advantage.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience working in an in-house legal role will be considered a distinct advantage.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, including the ability to set out a coherent analysis in presentations and in reports.
  • Ability to draft contracts and internal policies/protocols.
  • Ability to work in fast paced multi-cultural and fluid environment.
  • Ability to work independently while maintaining strong collaborative relationships with colleagues and partners.
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work accurately to meet deadlines.
  • Strong diplomatic and communication skills, ability to develop a close and effective working relationship with clients at all levels.
