Safaricom Seeks Senior Cloud Infrastructure Planning Engineer
Safaricom, Kenya’s leading provider of converged communication solutions, is on the lookout for a Senior Cloud Infrastructure Planning Engineer. This full-time position, based in Nairobi, requires a candidate with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field and at least five years of experience in cloud infrastructure engineering or a similar role.
Job Responsibilities
The successful candidate will report to the Manager – Infrastructure & Capacity Planning and will be responsible for designing, implementing, and managing hybrid cloud infrastructure using automation tools. Key responsibilities include:
- Cloud Infrastructure Design & Implementation: Design, deploy, and manage hybrid cloud environments using VMware, OpenShift, and public cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, and GCP. Integrate and manage compute resources from Dell, Huawei, and CISCO, and deploy storage solutions including UNITY, PowerMax, and OceanStor.
- Automation & Infrastructure as Code (IaC): Utilize automation tools such as Ansible and Chef for configuration management and automation of cloud infrastructure tasks. Develop and manage IaC using Terraform and other relevant tools to improve efficiency and consistency.
- Performance Monitoring & Optimization: Monitor cloud infrastructure performance to ensure high availability and optimize resources to reduce costs. Implement and manage SDN solutions for network optimization.
- Configuration & Management: Configure and manage virtualized environments and container orchestration platforms. Ensure proper configuration and management of storage systems and administer Linux-based systems and open-source technologies.
- Security & Compliance: Implement security best practices for both cloud and on-premises environments and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
- Documentation & Reporting: Create and maintain documentation for cloud infrastructure architecture, configurations, and processes. Report on system performance, incidents, and resolutions.
- Collaboration & Support: Collaborate with development, operations, and IT teams to ensure seamless integration and support. Provide technical support and guidance for cloud infrastructure issues.
Qualifications
Candidates must have relevant certifications in AWS, Azure, GCP, VMware, or other related technologies. A strong understanding of virtualization, containerization, and cloud storage solutions is essential, along with proven experience with automation tools like Ansible, Chef, and Terraform.
