Medecins Sans Frontieres is Launching Eastern Africa Media Fellowship Program

About MSF EA Media Fellowship Program

MSF Eastern Africa (MSF EA) is launching a Media Fellowship Program that aims to support and empower Kenyan journalists to tell compelling and impactful stories about pressing humanitarian issues that MSF is responding to in the region. The inaugural MSF EA fellowship will comprise of a virtual workshop, pitch development, and reporting grants. The fellowship will support journalists with the skills, resources and access to MSF projects that will enable them to produce high-quality, nuanced narratives that shine a light on critical health issues and humanitarian challenges across Eastern Africa.

Successful applicants will attend a one-day workshop to provide them with:

  • In-depth understanding of humanitarian crises in the region
  • Skills training in emergencies/health and humanitarian journalism, data analysis, storytelling for impact; ethical reporting in sensitive contexts, and storytelling techniques.
  • Networking opportunities with MSF staff and fellow journalists
  • Fellows will be selected based on their pitches and engagement during the training workshop, and the stories done in the month of October and November.

Eligibility Criteria 

  • Applicants must be Kenyan citizens.
  • The fellowship is open to journalists based and publishing in Kenya.
  • Applicants must have a minimum of three years of relevant work experience.
  • Applicants should have a demonstrated interest reporting on humanitarian work.
  • Applicants must be affiliated with an established media organisation or if working as a freelance journalist, must be accredited by the Media Council of Kenya (MCK)
