Environmental and Climate Health position at the International Rescue Committee
Global Practice Lead, Environmental and Climate Health position at the International Rescue Committee (IRC) is a strategic leadership role focused on advancing the organization’s Environmental Health (WASH) and climate-health nexus programs. This role involves driving innovation, technical excellence, and strategic partnerships to improve WASH services and address the impacts of climate change on health in fragile and humanitarian settings.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership and Innovation:
- Develop and lead the global strategy for Environmental Health (EH/WASH) and climate-health initiatives.
- Create scalable and sustainable water solutions to mitigate climate change effects on water security and health.
- Collaborate across Health, Nutrition, and EH practice areas to integrate climate adaptation and mitigation actions.
- Technical Excellence:
- Provide oversight for global technical standards and methodologies in EH.
- Develop tools and frameworks to integrate gender equality, diversity, and climate adaptation into EH programs.
- Support capacity building and technical guidance for regional teams.
- Learning and Research:
- Lead a Community of Practice for EH to foster innovation, learning, and best practices.
- Guide research efforts in Environmental Health and climate-health, ensuring global knowledge sharing and evidence-based practices.
- External Influence and Business Development:
- Lead business development efforts for EH, including fundraising and strategic partnerships.
- Represent IRC in external forums and advocate for policy changes related to EH.
Desired Experience and Skills:
- Expertise: 12+ years of experience in WASH, Environmental Health, or Climate-Health, with recognized expertise at a regional or global level.
- Leadership: Proven strategic leadership and management skills, with experience in fragile or humanitarian settings.
- Innovation: Track record of driving innovation and scaling solutions, ideally with digital and analog approaches.
- Evidence-Based Practice: Strong focus on integrating research and evidence into program design and delivery.
- Communication: Exceptional communication and influencing skills, with the ability to collaborate across cultures and departments.
- Language Proficiency: Fluency in English is required; proficiency in Arabic, French, and/or Spanish is preferred.
- Education: Master’s degree in WASH, Environmental Health, Public Health, or a related field.
